The Children are our Future

Ah, this is nice to see. I always thought that PR was a bullshit industry run by idiots who generally do more harm than good for your company…. and now I see that this is the case.

Thanks for the insightful emails… always good to see the shards exposed for the jackasses they are.

Like Lawywers and Venture Capitalsits, these are parasites on the creative and productive…. and their desperation makes it clear that they know it!

The above is a comment posted to Alley Insider Post discussing flame war between two NYC shops not worth my time to mention.

Things have really been tough for PR folks last week, in fact all of this year. Bad practices are catching up with PR people throughout our industry and no longer can we simply shake our heads and turn around on this problem.

I Uttered on Friday as I was traveling concerning the sorry state of the PR industry. Got a terrific comment from Kevin Dugan that I wanted to share because it is important and had me thinking over the weekend:

Kyle - One of the best outcomes of the bad pitch blog has been the response from students and professors. Channel your completely understandable feelings into connecting with a local PR class. Spread the word…the blog has made me realize folks already in the industry more than likely won’t change their bad habits. FWIW.

Although I hope that I can influence those around me who are already in the industry, Kevin is dead on that we need to reach the folks studying PR now or just getting into the industry. My initial idea after much pondering is to host a local (Boston) PR summit.

“PR: A Day of Learning How To Do It Right” will be a day devoted to PR best practices and will bring together some of the leading agency folks in the area to talk best practices without selling our capabilities or worrying about branding our own companies. Students and beginning PR folks are invited to attend for a day of learnings.

Who is with me?
